The patented New Ratchet 3rd Generation (NRG3 for short) is a roller wrench 3D Printed with DMLS. Stratasys Direct Manufacturing provided early 3D Printed prototypes utilizing Laser Sintering (LS). Stratasys Direct Manufacturing also produced functional metal components using DMLS, including the spindle cage and lever, for the production ready wrench. (To learn more about the wrench, visit Roller Clutch Tools).
DMLS, as an additive manufacturing (3D Printing) process, is able to consolidate parts. Features that would normally require additional assembly or machining are easily built directly into the part. Internal and external features are simultaneously grown from the ground up, resulting in less bulky and therefore lighter parts. Stratasys Direct Manufacturing also provides Cobalt Chrome and Stainless Steel 17-4 sintered metal components.
Update: For a bit more information on the wrench, check out Engineering.com’s post here also has some great info.
